I gave this cake to a pregnant lady. I’m pretty sure that the alcohol evaporated when I baked it. If not, I am responsible for her baby’s first drink.

Okay, onto the cake! I piped the frosting using Wilton Tip 1M. The frosting pattern is heart-shaped. The hearts are right side up and upside down … every other one. It was pretty easy.

First, pipe a heart shape with your tip, and then stand on a chair or use your 3-year-old’s table and pipe the heart upside down next to it. Do that all the way around the cake.

GIVE TO YOUR FAVORITE JEHOVAH WITNESS. YOU KNOW THEY COME BY ONCE A WEEK, AND I'M SURE THEY ARE HUNGRY.

Ingredients

    CAKE NUMBER 1:
  • Duncan Hines Red Velvet Cake Mix
  • 1 Small Box of Hershey's Chocolate Pudding
  • 1 1/4 Cup of Amaretto (yes! alcohol, Yay!)
  • 1/8 Vegetable Oil
  • 8 Ounces of Plain Yogurt
  • 3 Eggs
    CAKE NUMBER 2:
  • Duncan Hines Red Velvet Cake Mix
  • 1 Small Box of Hershey's Chocolate Pudding
  • 1 1/4 Cup of Amaretto (More alcohol, Yay!)
  • 1/8 Vegetable Oil
  • 8 Ounces of Plain Yogurt
  • 3 Eggs
    CAKE NUMBER 3:
  • Duncan Hines White Cake Mix
  • 1 Small Box of Vanilla Pudding
  • 1 1/4 Cup of Amaretto (Even more alcohol, Yay!)
  • 1/8 Vegetable Oil
  • 8 Ounces of Plain Yogurt
  • 3 Eggs
    FROSTING:
  • 5 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Cube of Butter
  • 1/4 Cup Milk
  • 1 Tsp Almond Extract
    FONDANT:
  • Fondarific Wedding White Fondant
  • Metal Cut-out Hearts
    FOOD COLORING:
  • Red

Instructions

    CAKE NUMBER 1:
  • Mix ingredients
  • Grease and flour heart-shaped pan
  • Bake at 325˚ -- check cake -- do not over bake
    CAKE NUMBER 2:
  • Mix ingredients
  • Grease and flour heart-shaped pan
  • Combine cake mix 2 & 3, using more of 3 to get pink color
  • Bake at 325˚ -- check cake -- do not over bake
    CAKE NUMBER 3:
  • Mix ingredients
  • Grease and flour heart-shaped pan
  • Combine cake mix 2 & 3, using more of 3 to get a lighter pink color
  • Bake at 325˚ -- check cake -- do not over bake
  • Now, you will have three cakes all different shades.
  • Put these cakes into the freezer for added moisture.
    LEVEL:
  • Level your cakes. You don't want a round top. Make sure the tops are flat.
    FROSTING:
  • Separate your icing into three different bowls.
  • Mix red food coloring to the desired color of frosting and lighten as you go.
  • Apply frosting to the middle of your cakes and then the top. I used a regular cake spatula and layered it back and forth. You know, the lazy way.
  • Use a serrated knife (make sure your cake is cold!) to make the sides uniform.
  • Put back into the freezer to set for 15 minutes.
    PIPE:
  • Pipe your hearts carefully -- take your time -- you're not catching a train.
    FONDANT:
  • Color your fondant to the desired levels of pink. I use red food coloring because it just takes a bit of it to turn the frosting pink.
  • Cut out your hearts and let them set. Set them in a dish so that they harden curved.
  • Once hardened, apply to your cake.
